About

My jawbreaking name is Fridthjofur Thorsteinsson and therefore I have always been called Fiffi. Please feel free to use it – although it might sound weird to you at first it will catch on! I was born in 1984 in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. I grew up in the small town of Isafjordur where I got to know theatre and its wonders. I was around 14 years old and was tricked into being a follow-spot operator at a local amateur production of Oliver! by Lionel Bart. I was quite reluctant do do it and little did I know it would turn out to be one of my greatest passions in life.

Through the years I participated in a quite a few productions in my home town and when I finally moved back to Reykjavik I worked at the Reykjavik City Theatre, Icelandic National Theatre, The Icelandic Dance Company and various other independent performance group. From there I moved to London where I studied performance lighting design at the Central School of Speech and Drama, from where I graduated with a BA (Hons) in 2009.

During my training I participated in various performances – such as site specific work, contemporary dance, theatre, musicals and more. I received a recognition of my work by being awarded as a runner-up to the Michael Northern Bursary in 2009 for my lighting design for Godfather Death, a devised play based on a little known Grimm’s fairy-tale.

Please take the time to browse my portfolio and do feel free to get in touch. Thanks for visiting.
